If you’re wondering how dirty a mattress can really get, trying out this bed vacuum cleaner would be a good way of finding out.

Many of us tend to focus on keeping our bedclothes clean, while assuming the mattress doesn’t need much attention (apart from getting the odd spilt tea stain out. No? Just us?).

Not-so-fun-fact: Our mattresses can actually hold a lot of dust and dirt, including dead skin cells, that can harbour smells, bacteria and attract bed bugs and dust mites.

The handheld VonHaus bed vacuum cleaner is specially designed to suck these up – including dust mites and bed bugs – and according to several reviewers online, it does it very well.

And in one TikTok video from author and TV cleaning guru, Lynsey Crombie, aka Lynsey Queen of Clean, we’re all pretty shocked by how much it appears to suck up.

‘It has always surprised me how much comes out of my mattress,’ they wrote alongside quite the satisfying video. ‘This is a cleaning task I do every two weeks, just imagine what would come out after a year.’

It has always surprised me how much comes out of my mattress. Watch 👀 to end to see the satisfying results. This is a cleaning task I do every 2 weeks, just imagine what would come out after a year 🤮 Does anyone remember when I cleaned the mattresses on Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners? The smell still haunts me! Mattress vacuum from @vonhaus.uk highly recommend (not an AD) #cleansheetssunday #bedroomcleaning #mattresscleaning #mattresses #matressclean #queenofclean #freshenup #cleaningmotivation #cleaningmode #satisfying #satisfyingclean #sunday #cleaningtasks

It has a UV light to penetrate below the surface and zap away any harmful organisms and a vibrating motor to help disturb the dirt and dust before it’s removed.

The brand claims the vacuum also locks in any particles it sucks up to prevent re-circulating them into the air and spreading allergens and bacteria.

As well as mattresses, the versatile device can be used on carpets, sofas and other upholstery surfaces and comes with a crevice tool to get into those hard-to-reach places.

Amazon reviewers also praised the device. One said they were ‘obsessed’ with the hand-held vacuum cleaner, adding: ‘Amazed by what you can hoover up. Definitely recommend.’

Another wrote: ‘This works really well and was well priced. I could not believe how much dust came out. I used it on a mattress and a sofa after we moved house.’

A third happy shopper posted: ‘I am so very pleased with this product. It does the job so well. This gadget removes minute dust particles from the mattress but can be used widely around the home. Thank you very much. Wouldn’t be without one. Excellent bit kit!’

A pet owner said they’d tried other branded handheld vacuum cleaners but ‘this one tops them all’, adding: ‘Powerful suction and so easy to use, you just plug it in and you’re good to go. I’ve tried it on my bed and sofas and it did what it says on the tin. Highly recommended A+.’
